I have a deep respect for my local community and would like the opportunity to represent the Creswick Ward on a range of important issues. I grew up in Western Victoria and have lived in Creswick for nearly ten years, so country life and a connection to the rural environment, form an important part of who I am.
I have a broad work experience, including tertiary education; as an assistant director for television, including working on the Kath and Kim series and my own second-hand furniture business in Creswick.
I have a strong track record and commitment as a community leader in Creswick: Manager of the highly successful Creswick Market; Creswick Theatre Company: as Vice President, performer and director; Coordinator for the Hepburn Z-NET Home Energy Assessment program, which helps homeowners in the Shire upgrade their home energy efficiency and to reduce their energy bills; Co-founder of the local sustainability group, Transition Creswick, which has been involved in running initiatives such as a local food swap, community dinners, Boomerang Bags and the original Creswick Harvest Festival; lead singer for Creswick Brass Band at Anzac Day and Australia Day events.
To listen carefully and to stand up for the concerns of those who live in Creswick Ward are my main priorities if I am elected as a local councillor. I will support processes that actively consider a diverse range of community interests, act with integrity and provide strong civic leadership in my role as your local councillor.
I am interested in real and achievable action on climate change and more equitable access to renewable energy and transport; affordable housing and better town planning; promotion of local food and its production; resource recovery and strengthening our local economy with a renewed emphasis on local jobs, skills and industry. I have an inclusive attitude towards a diverse set of issues such as youth engagement, the rights of First Nations People, and to challenge policies or behaviours that discriminate, are inequitable, corrupt, unfair, or abusive.
Because of my background, I am a strong advocate for the Arts, fostering our local talent and encouraging community wellbeing.
I offer an experienced, critical and independent mind and a genuine enthusiasm to get the job doneā¦ and done well.
The Creswick Ward deserves a stronger voice on Council.
